Women Work! The National Network for Women's Employment is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that advances economic justice and equality for women through education, advocacy and organizing. Since 1978, the Network has assisted more than 10 million women to successfully enter, re-enter and advance in the workforce. Office Manager

The Office Manager will provide support to the leadership, staff, and Board of Directors of Women Work!. She or he will be responsible for the day to day operations of the national office and will work collaboratively with all staff.

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

Office responsibilities

  • Primary database administration
  • Technical assistance with telephones and other office equipment
  • Customer service
  • Accounts payable management
  • Financial and technical reports assistance
  • Vendor relationships and scheduled preventative service calls
  • Office and equipment maintenance
  • Manage Inventory systems by ordering supplies, equipment and furnishings
  • Assist in payroll and benefits management
  • Maintain an accurate up-to-date filing system

Support responsibilities

  • Support staff supervision
  • Problem solving and decision-making as routine day-to-day activity
  • Assist membership department with recruitment, retention and maintenance
  • Provide support to the fundraising department and the CEO's fundraising activities
  • Assist with training and orientation of new staff
  • Provide support in preparing for the National Conference, specifically registration

Qualifications:

  • Excellent team, interpersonal, organization and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, databases and other software packages.
  • Familiarity with multi-line phones.
  • Must be comfortable both taking initiative and following directions, experience with providing information by phone
  • Minimum five years administrative experience, with a two-year degree in business or related field
  • Pleasant attitude
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Fall 2008 Internships

Positions currently available: Development, Communications, Membership and Field Services, and Public Policy.

Internship Details:

 

Fall internships go from September to December, spring from January to May, and summer from June to August. The internship can be structured for course credit.

 

Development

Development Internship - Fall 2008

The Development Intern will report to the Development Manager. A commitment of 15 to 20 hours a week is required.

Qualifications:

  • A strong interest in Women Work!'s efforts to help women in transition become self-sufficient and ensure economic equity for all women.
  • Strong research, writing and computer skills.
  • Ability to work well independently, and also as part of a team.
  • An outgoing personality and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Initiative and ability to follow-through on all assigned tasks with attention to detail.
  • Timeliness and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the cultivation, acknowledgement and stewardship, and solicitation of prospective and current donors.
  • Producing development reports on individual, foundation, and corporate funding prospects from on-line research.
  • Assisting with fundraising database entry as needed.
  • Assisting with sponsorships and in-kind donations for 2009 National Conference.
  • Assisting in projects that arise throughout the semester.

Communications

The Communications Intern will report to the Communications and Membership Manager. A commitment of 15 to 20 hours a week is required. Start dates are flexible based on candidate's availability.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in issues of women's education, employment and economic justice
  • Excellent copy-editing skills
  • Excellent writing, editing, research, interviewing and computer skills
  • A desire to work hard and learn new skills
  • An ability to meet deadlines, work independently or with others

Opportunities include but are not limited to:

  • Gain experience working for a national women's organization
  • Learn about the field of women's rights advocacy
  • Write and edit magazine articles, press releases and web content
  • Assist with e-newsletter production, media outreach and a variety of other communications projects
  • Interview and write "success stories"

Membership and Field Services

The Membership and Field Services department at Women Work! administers the membership program of the national organization. This department is also responsible for providing support to state level Women Work! affiliates through guidance, strategic planning, training, and other technical assistance.

The Membership and Field Services Intern will report to the Membership and Field Services Manager. A commitment of 15 to 20 hours a week is required. Start dates are flexible based on candidate's availability.

Qualifications:

  • A strong interest in women's education, employment and economic issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • An attention to detail.
  • An ability to meet deadlines, work on projects with minimal supervision, and remain focused.
  • Sales and/or Marketing experience is preferred, but not necessary

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with routine operation of the membership program, including activities related to member retention and recruitment.
  • Assisting with membership research and membership prospecting – including telephone and email prospecting.
  • Assisting with preparations foe our annual national conference.
  • Writing newsletter articles.
  • Assisting with a variety of projects related to Women Work! State networks.
  • Assisting in developing state network materials, membership mailings, and membership resources.
  • Communicating with members via phone and email.
  • Assisting with projects related to growth and development of the membership program.
  • Data base and data entry work.

Public Policy Intern

A Public Policy internship at Women Work! provides an opportunity to experience the federal policy process first-hand, while gaining substantive work experience as part of a small and dedicated national staff. The Public Policy Intern will report to the Public Policy Manager. A commitment of 15 to 20 hours a week is required.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in women's education, employment, and economic justice issues.
  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet research tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail, including solid fact-checking and copy-editing skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and find creative solutions to problems.
  • Working knowledge of the federal legislative process preferred.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor and conduct background research on legislation that impacts women's economic security.
  • Represent Women Work! at coalition meetings, briefings, and Congressional hearings.
  • Research, draft, and update fact sheets, articles, and website content.
  • Help implement grassroots advocacy campaigns.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Public Policy Department.
