Development Doctor

Many people fear fundraising because they are scared of being told "no."  But the truth is 9 times out of 10, that "no" can be changed to a "yes."  So the next time a potential funder tells you "no," identify why and modify your ask accordingly.   The "types of no's" are as follows:

  • No, not for this (wrong issue)
  • No, not you (wrong person asking)
  • No, not me (I'm not the decision maker)
  • No, not unless...(looking for recognition)
  • No, not in this way (not cash, but in-kind)
  • No, not now (wait until after I pay my bills)
  • No, too much (scale down amount of ask)
  • No, too little (believe in your cause, ask for more)
  • No, go away

Please direct all questions to the Development Doctor at thodnett@womenwork.org.  If you have any specific web sites or resources that you use to raise funds, let the Doctor know.  Good prescriptions for financial health should be shared!
