Multiple Year Giving Society

Fundraising can be a fickle business; despite your best efforts, you may begin to see donations decrease (see "gas prices" or "recession" for possible reasons).

As a fundraiser, the best way to combat this is to increase your stewardship efforts and develop new ways for donors to be able to give.

Establishing multi-year partnerships with your donors is a great opporunity to engage established donors. By creating a "Multiple Year Giving Society"*, your organization is provided unrestricted backing for operations and a secure funding stream, as well as a group of donors who will be able to encourage other potential donors to invest in your organization. Once you have these multi-year relationships established, it opens the opportunity to not only recruit new donors, but show your current donors how valuable they are to your organization. Stewardship becomes a regular part of this process, as you can further engage donors in your organization in various ways.

The perfect idea if your organization has strong year-to-year givers, the "Multiple Year Giving Society" could be considered an "invitation only" type of giving circle. Keep in mind the need for a specific ask - how much money over how many years. As you introduce the idea to donors, you may want to propose a 2-3 year pledge, understanding that each donor and scenario is different.

Please direct all questions to the Development Doctor at thodnett@womenwork.org.  If you have any specific web sites or resources that you use to raise funds, let the Doctor know.  Good prescriptions for financial health should be shared!
