  Focus on Friendraising

Today's donors are looking to be more than just a checkbook; they want to build a relationship with your whole organization rather than just your fundraising staff. In this issue, I'll give you some tips on how to build friends of your organization and turn them into donors if they aren't already.

The key to reaching individual donors is to understand their interests and speak their language. Think about the diversity of your donors and potential donors and be the bridge between their interests and your organization's work.

Consider:

  1. Introducing your donors and potential donors to staff and clients in their areas of interest– hands on involvement.
  2. Finding out what other groups your donors and potential donors work with and discuss unique ways for them to be a community bridge – a great way to give donors a role other than through financial support.
  3. Ask donors and potential donors where their interests lie and what their passion is.
  4. Host appreciation events for donors simply to thank them for their support and invite potential donors to mingle – this is a great way to demonstrate community-wide support while building your own donor community.
  5. Create a weekly or monthly newsletter, like eNews Works!, to keep donors and potential donors in the loop.

The more aligned someone is to your organization's mission and vision, the more likely they will get involved, donate, or volunteer. Good luck!
