Carol Evans and Margaret Larson Honored In Washington
WASHINGTON, DC –– Carol Evans, Founder and CEO of Working Mother Media and
Margaret Larson, Humanitarian and Journalist, have been named the 2007 Women of Vision by
Women Work! The National Network for Women’s Employment. They will be honored on April
23, 2007, at the Women Work! National Conference for the vision and courage they have
demonstrated in their work to help women thrive.
"Carol Evans and Margaret Larson have both done so much for women at home and abroad,”
commented Women Work! CEO Jill Miller. “Each in their own way has raised awareness of the
inequalities women face and expanded opportunities for women to succeed. We are honored to
have these Women of Vision address our membership at our national conference.”
Evans’ path as a pioneer for America’s working mothers began in 1978 when she sold the most
advertising pages in the first issue of Working Mother magazine. In 1986, she launched the
Working Mother 100 Best Companies, which is still recognized today as a benchmark for
companies that are supportive of working parents. In August of 2001 she founded Working
Mother Media by acquiring Working Mother magazine, Work Life Congress and the National
Association for Female Executives with MCG Capital. Today, Working Mother Media is the
largest media company in the country focused on diversity and the advancement of women.
Larson’s interest in enriching connections between Western women and women in the
developing world began during her time as a foreign correspondent covering Typhoon Thelma in
the Philippines, the Yugoslavian war, American hostages in the Middle East, US military action
in Iraq and the Kurdish refugee crisis in southern Turkey. On assignment Larson’s eyes were
open to the ways women’s lives can be devastated during periods of humanitarian crises. Her
aid-related work has taken her to southern Lebanon, Kosovo, Afghan refugee camps and the
most recent Iraq ground war.
The Woman of Vision Award is presented annually the Women Work! national conference.
