Opportunity Delivered Partnership Increases Employment Opportunities for Maryland Women
August 20, 2007 -- Opportunity Delivered, a new partnership to increase job placement opportunities for Maryland 's unemployed and underemployed women, was launched today by Frito-Lay Mid-Atlantic Region and Maryland Women Work! at a press briefing in Aberdeen, MD. Del. B. Daniel Riley (D-Cecil/Harford) joined Frito-Lay executives and representatives from Maryland Women Work!'s state-wide workforce development programs, to kickoff this unique project that benefits Maryland families, communities and employers.
Minimum Wage Increase Boosts Millions of Women's Wages

May 25, 2007 -- Today, Congress approved a raise for the more than 9 million hardworking American women who are paid at or near the minimum wage. Long-time advocate for raising the minimum wage, Women Work! The National Network for Women’s Employment, calls on the President to sign the increase into law and to support future legislation that improves the economic security of women workers, who are disproportionately represented among the nation’s lowest earners.
Congress calls on Department of Labor to Protect the Women’s Bureau
May 3, 2007 -- In a letter delivered to Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao on May 2, Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and 26 of her House colleagues strongly urged the Department of Labor to restore Women's Bureau funding to the level Congress intended and provided for in the Continuing Resolution passed earlier this year. The Department's cut to the Bureau's budget threatens critical programs for working women and represents a disregard for the interests of nearly 70 million women in the U.S. labor force. The Bureau is the only federal agency devoted to the concerns of women in the workplace.

April 24, 2007 -- Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak in support of women's wage equity at an Equal Pay Day rally on Capitol Hill this afternoon. Bush Administration's Attack on Working Women Continues
April 5, 2007 -- The interests of nearly 70 million women in the US labor force are in jeopardy due to an unnecessary cut to the already meager budget of the Women's Bureau by the Department of Labor. The cut to the only federal agency devoted to the concerns of women in the workplace represents the latest maneuver in the Bush Administration seven-year campaign to dismantle the Bureau and its critical initiatives for women. Women Work! the National Network for Women's Employment calls on Secretary Elaine Chao and the Department of Labor to reinstate the full budget of the Women's Bureau and amply fund the agency in the future.
Asset Building Project Leads Low-Income Women to Self-Sufficiency
January 8, 2007 -- Low income women in five states gained a new resource for reaching economic self-sufficiency as part of an asset building project announced by Women Work! The National Network for Women's Employment. Five Women Work! state affiliates will help women save using the proven method of teaching financial literacy while encouraging program participants to build assets through a matched savings program. The Economic Self-Sufficiency through Financial Education and Individual Development Accounts project is made possible with the generous support of the CREW Foundation.
10,000 Women to use New Career Advancement Tool in 2007
January 4, 2007 -- In 2007 more than 10,000 women across the country will use the Women Work! Career Center to navigate a path to a new rewarding, lucrative career according to projections announced today by Women Work! The National Network for Women's Employment. The free website and online job bank, launched in August, has seen a steady increase in the number of unique visitors during the last quarter of 2006.

Ten Years of TANF, No Cause for Celebration
August 22, 2006 -- Ten years after the creation of Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), the program has failed to reach children and families living in the deepest poverty. On this TANF anniversary, Women Work! The National Network for Women's Employment advocates that the Department of Health and Human Service (HHS) revise program regulations to encourage states to devote resources to education and training - the tools that have been proven most successful at bringing families out of poverty.
Perkins Act Reauthorization Will Help Women and Families Succeed
August 15, 2006 -- After years of effort by Women Work! The National Network for Women's Employment and other advocates for career education, the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act was signed into law by President Bush over the weekend. The law renews $1.3 billion in grants for high schools and community colleges to provide individuals with the academic and technical skills needed to succeed in high-skill, high-wage careers. It also takes several positive steps to ensure that women in transition have greater access to the career education system.

April 19, 2006 -- More than four decades after the passage of the 1963 Equal Pay Act, full-time female workers in the United States are still paid only 77 cents for every dollar a full-time male worker makes. March 27, 2006 -- Dr. Maria Guajardo Lucero, Executive Director of the Mayor's Office for Education and Children in Denver, has been chosen as the 2006 Woman of Vision by Women Work! She will be honored on April 6 at the Women Work! national conference for her achievements as an author, mother, community volunteer and leader in the field of public education.
West Virginia Women Work! Receives Award of Excellence
March 27, 2006 -- West Virginia Women Work! (WVWW!) will be honored for its innovative and successful approach to helping low-income women gain meaningful employment in a Capitol Hill reception on April 6. Selected from a completive pool of organizations, WVWW! will be presented with the Women Work! Award of Excellence. Service providers and advocates from around the country will attend the ceremony sponsored by Verizon Communications.
